The Traumatic Brain Injury Direct Support Professional (TBIDSP) will provide support, training, and assistance to an individual in his/her home, including personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication administration, recreational activities, meal preparation, personal hygiene, work and leisure activities, and financial responsibilities.
The TBIDSP assists the client with his/her daily routines, builds relationships, implements individual program plans, and performs other duties as necessary. The DSP is responsible to protect and promote the health, safety and well-being of each individual.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Take the person to Courage Kenny one time a week and swim with them and help with any water therapy, done in the pool
  2. Conduct exercises with the person two times a day to build his strength
  3. Encourage and engage in home activities such as shopping, haircuts, visiting friends, movies, zoo, music in the parks, etc.
  4. Accompany the person to his Day Program two times a week
  5. Encourage the person to complete goals and outcomes as stated in his plan
  6. Assist the person to access and use varous programs on his iPad
  7. Accompany the person to appointments, music therapy, and counseling sessions
  • Education Level
    • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
  • Training and Experience
    • Experience working with people with traumatic brain injury - non-verbal disabilities preferred
    • Valid MN Driver's License, insured vehicle
    • CPR, First Aid, and Heimlich are required. Training is provided
  • Special Knowledge and Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate, read, and write in English
    • Ability to work independently and without continuous on-site supervision
    • Ability to perform basic arithmetic functions
  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to hear, speak, and see to assure safety
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
    • Ability to complete tasks such as shoveling, shopping, mowing, vacuuming, and pushing a wheelchair
  • General Requirements
    • 18 years of age or older 
    • The ability to successfully pass a background check as determined by the Department of Human Services
    • A valid Driver's License, reliable transportation with proof of auto insurance, and the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Check
    • A passion for helping individuals feel happy, successful, and safe in their lives highly desired.
The hours are:
Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00PM
